Think about it for a moment - you've found an excellent multi-tier affiliate program and you know your chances of succeeding will be helped dramatically if you have an active and experienced sponsor. A sponsor who's asleep at the wheels is no help at all are they?

One aspect of Internet marketing that I suspect most newbie marketers tend to neglect is the importance of participating in online Internet marketing forums.

Why are Internet marketing forums so important?

There is no better way to learn how to make money online than by interacting with the people who are actually doing it. Internet marketing forums are filled with people who are more than happy to answer your questions or help you out with a problem you are having. In most cases all you need to do is ask.

There is also the networking aspect of participating in Internet marketing forums. It always helps to get to know who the big players in any industry are but it’s even more important that they get to know who you are. Internet marketing forums are a great way to socialize and interact with these people get to get to know them on a more personal level.

And of course there is the traffic!

While you usually can’t openly promote your affiliate links on Internet marketing forums you can often add them to your signature which appears beneath all of your posts. The more posts you add to the forum the more likely your signature will be noticed by other forum members. If you’re lucky the thread you are posting in might even get picked up by some of the major search engines giving you even more valuable traffic to your links. .....................

I received an email tonight with the subject line above, and decided to do a Google search to check it out.

Just as well I did. My search took me to this post on the Warrior Forum......

BEWARE: Scam email offering massive discount on WPRobot

Can't believe I got taken in by a scam after 10+ years on the net telling people "Check it out before you buy!"
Got a mail last night the subject line being "*** WP ROBOT FOR $20 *** Powerful autoblogging plugin for WOrdpress weblogs...... recommends this site"
I've been looking at buying WPRobot for a while so I jumped right on it without double-checking. Silly me!
The link in the email opens a site which looks EXACTLY like the real WPRobot site complete with graphics and all. After purchase through Paypal, you're given a download, which is even MOST of the WPRobot plugin... it just doesn't work if you try to upload it.
Thinking back, the signs were there that it was a scam (using a URL shortener, domain didn't match the regular WPRobot site) but I was so excited by the massive discount that I didn't do my homework.
I filed a dispute with Paypal and was refunded this morning. I also made the REAL WPRobot site aware of the issue.
So just a note for anyone who receives the same scam.

Disturbingly, the email came in to one of my more secure mail addresses, so it looks like someone I've bought something from in the past has either sold on mail addresses, or has had their list hacked

The bottom line is: If it looks to good to be true - be suspicious and check it out.

Has it really been nearly three months since I last updated my blog and contacted all my valued subcribers? Sorry. After a leisurely holiday in Malaysia I returned to New Zealand and almost immediately went down with a rather nasty neurological condition. Even now I'm still not fully up to speed, but am recovering slowly. Protect your online life from prying eyes with these key Firefox
privacy add-ons.

They say privacy doesn't exist on the Web -- but that doesn't mean you
can't try to safeguard your personal information. Our computers are
loaded with details about our personal and business lives, and it's
definitely not acceptable to reveal them haphazardly. With hackers
becoming ever more sophisticated, you have to take precautions.

One threat to privacy on the Web is the use of cookies and other
technologies to track your browsing, clicking, searching, social
networking and buying habits as you move from site to site. These
tracking technologies build up an online profile of you that can be
used not only to send you ads designed to appeal to you (useful to
some, intrusive to others) but could also be used for identity theft
if the information fell into the wrong hands.

Another threat is the vast number of files that accumulate on your
hard drive -- your browsing history, log-in cookies, cached pages and
more -- that could be accessed either by someone who gets physical
control over your machine or remotely by hackers who have installed
malware on your system. This information can include banking details,
credit card numbers, Web site passwords and records of your visits to
potentially embarrassing sites.

The current versions of all popular Web browsers offer some sort of
"private browsing" feature -- you activate it and surf as you normally
would, but your cookies, passwords, Web history and browser cache are
erased when you close the browser at the end of your session. Private
browsing offers some degree of protection if you're willing to forgo
the convenience of having your Web history and saved passwords at your
fingertips. But researchers from Stanford University and Carnegie
Mellon University have found that no browser actually removes every
trace of private browsing sessions. oz In this regard, Firefox's vast
library of browser add-ons is both a blessing and a curse. On one
hand, the researchers found that some add-ons, such as those that
enhance searching, may store information that's supposed to be purged
after a private browsing session.

On the other hand, a number of Firefox extensions (some of which are
available for other browsers) can protect your privacy to a degree
that's far above and beyond what private browsing can do. For
comprehensive control over your privacy, install and use at least some
of these eight Firefox extensions.

PasswordMaker: A basic security rule is that you should use a unique,
un-guessable password for each site you visit. But how do you
remember LV307gbH(* every time you log into your Web mail account?
PasswordMaker solves that problem by generating a new password for
each site -- all you have to remember is your own master password to
unlock the extension. PasswordMaker uses an algorithm based on your
master password, the URL of the site, your username and six other
factors to generate the password on the fly every time you visit the
site. That means it never needs to store passwords on your computer
(or on a central server) -- so even if someone gets access to your
computer, your passwords are safe since they're not actually stored on
the computer anywhere.

Generate safe passwords on the fly with PasswordMaker. Obviously,
it's vitally important not to forget your master password if you use
PasswordMaker. It's also important to remember or back up your
account settings and configuration; the algorithm uses those settings
for password generation, so you'll need to re-create them if your
system crashes. The PasswordMaker site offers some planning tips so
that you can recover from a system crash.

KeyScrambler: Personal One of the more insidious threats bad guys can
throw at you is a keylogger, a tiny piece of software that invisibly
captures every keystroke you make and sends it back to its home base.
Your stream of keystrokes can provide cybercrooks with personal
information like your Social Security number or credit card numbers,
and of course your log-in information for Web sites, applications and
your computer itself.

An even more comprehensive solution for the two problems above is

Ghostery: Cookies placed by ads and Web pages can be used to track you
as you move from site to site: Every time you visit a page with code
from a particular ad or other tracking network, it can check to see
what other sites with its code you've visited, what you did there and
what you clicked on, allowing it to build a rather thorough profile of
your surfing habits.

If you prefer more private, less customized Web surfing, using your
browser's security or privacy settings to block third-party cookies
can help, but some tracking services are able to circumvent these
controls.

Ghostery identifies the companies behind the tracking code on Web
sites. The Ghostery extension, a part of the Better Advertising
project, identifies code from 200 different ad and other tracking
networks, showing you who is collecting data about you and what data
they are collecting. You can decide whether to allow each service to
track you or to block it.

When a Web page is first loading, Ghostery overlays a list of active
trackers at the top-right-hand corner of your browser. If you want to
explore further, you can click the ghost icon in your browser's status
bar to bring up a menu listing all the trackers along with links to
further information.

Ghostery provides information about each tracking service so you can
choose whether or not to let it track you.

You can even explore the particular code used to see exactly what the
tracker is doing. Clicking "Block" for any tracker will prevent its
JavaScript from loading at all, on the site you're currently visiting
plus any other sites that use the same service. Ghostery is also
available for Internet Explorer and Chrome.

BetterPrivacy: NettiCat's BetterPrivacy offers protection against an
increasingly common kind of cookie called a local shared object (LSO)
or Flash cookie. LSOs are used by the Adobe Flash Player plug-in to
store the same kind of information that's usually stored in browser
cookies.

However, because LSO cookies are stored in a system folder instead of
in the browser folder, they can't be easily deleted. What's more,
unlike browser cookies, LSOs never expire, and they can hold about 25
times more information than typical cookies. Since these objects are
placed by Flash, your browser's security settings have no effect on
them. And here's where they get really insidious -- some companies
use Flash cookies to duplicate their browser cookies. You may delete
the browser cookie for a site, but the LSO stays -- and it restores
the original cookie the next time you visit the site. This
reanimation capability has given rise to two more names for these
objects: super-cookies and zombie cookies.

This is where BetterPrivacy comes in. The extension can be set to
automatically delete all Flash cookies every time you exit your
browser, or you can manually manage and delete unwanted LSOs one by
one so that information can't be accessed or used to track you from
site to site.

When you install BetterPrivacy, there's no obvious change to Firefox
off the bat. When you close the browser, however, the extension
checks for LSOs. If it finds any, you'll see a dialog box asking if
you want to delete them. If you hit Cancel, it doesn't do anything;
if you hit OK, it deletes them. There's also a checkbox that lets
BetterPrivacy automatically delete all LSOs every time after that.

BetterPrivacy scans for and removes LSOs -- a.k.a. super-cookies --
every time you exit Firefox.

To manage LSOs directly, open BetterPrivacy's preferences in the Tools
menu. Here you can remove them one by one or all at once; you can
also add specific LSOs to a whitelist to prevent them from being
automatically deleted in the future.

KeyScrambler: Personal foils keyloggers by encrypting everything you
type into Firefox. QFX Software's KeyScrambler Personal offers a
clever way to defeat keyloggers -- as you type, it encrypts the
keystrokes at the driver level and then decrypts them in the browser.
Any keystroke-logging malware on your computer will capture only the
encrypted signal, which it will see as gibberish.

KeyScrambler Personal for Firefox, IE and Flock is free; there are
also paid versions -- Pro ($29.99) and Premium ($44.99) -- that extend
protection to other browsers, e-mail clients, password managers and
many other applications.

Note that KeyScrambler works only with Windows; we don't know of any
comparable protection for Mac users.

NoScript: The NoScript extension by Giorgio Maone prevents JavaScript,
Java and other executable content from running on any Web page you
haven't expressly allowed to run scripts. This is crucial protection
against cross-site scripting (XSS), where hackers insert code into Web
pages using vulnerabilities in the various scripting languages the
sites use to deliver content. Hackers use XSS to install arbitrary
code on users' machines for keylogging, hijacking passwords or
phishing; it's currently one of the most effective methods of
delivering malware.

NoScript lets you selectively allow scripting from sites you trust and
block scripting from sites you don't.

NoScript is also effective in blocking an emerging form of user
tracking called browser fingerprinting. A recent study by the
Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) showed that even without cookies
or malware, Web sites can pull enough information about a user from
the browser itself to build up a profile that can be used to track the
user from site to site. The EFF singled out NoScript as an effective
safeguard against this kind of tracking. Since so much of the Web
relies for basic functionality on the scripting languages that
NoScript blocks, an Options button at the bottom of the browser window
pops up a menu with options that you can use to temporarily or
permanently allow scripts on sites you trust.

Tor-Proxy.Net Toolbar: The Tor Project is an anonymizing service that
tunnels your Web traffic through a network of random routers to make
it virtually impossible for an outside observer to track any Web
activity back to your computer. You can install the Tor program on
your computer and route all your Web traffic through Tor, but because
your packets are bounced off servers around the world, you will
experience much slower Internet response.

Using the Tor-Proxy.Net Toolbar, though, you can choose to use Tor on
a case-by-case basis, visiting chosen sites anonymously while
maintaining non-anonymous connections in other Firefox tabs. Just
enter the URL of the site you want to visit into the Tor-Proxy.Net
Toolbar instead of Firefox's own address bar and click "by Tor."

Use the Tor-Proxy.Net Toolbar to route your Web surfing through the
Tor anonymous network.

The toolbar also offers two other options: You can click "by
JAP/JonDos" to use the less popular JonDonym service, which offers
slightly better performance but slightly weaker anonymity, or you can
click "by Express-Service" to use Tor-Proxy.Net's own anonymizing
server. It's a little quicker than the others but isn't as secure,
since it's not an established anonymity service.

FireFound: One of the greatest threats to privacy is the loss or theft
of a laptop or desktop computer, giving whoever finds or steals it
access to everything stored on it. Chris Finke's FireFound extension
notes the location of the network your computer is on whenever it
connects to the Internet. If it has changed locations, FireFound
sends a message to a central server with the new location.

FireFound Firefox extension If your computer is stolen or lost,
FireFound can wipe out your Firefox data remotely the next time the
computer is connected to the Internet.

So if the computer has been stolen or misplaced, you can log onto the
password-protected FireFound server to find out approximately where it
is. You can also set FireFound to send you an alert via e-mail
whenever the computer is more than a specific distance away.
FireFound lets you remotely send instructions to delete browser
passwords, page cache, surfing history, form data and other personal
information from Firefox, so that whoever is in possession of your
computer won't be able to use your browser to access your online
accounts or derive personal information from your cache.

The extension relies on the free service at FireFound.com, or you can
set up your own open-source FireFound server. A $1-per-month premium
account allows you to remotely encrypt and back up your saved
passwords before wiping them from your lost computer; the premium
account also lets you designate "safe areas" within which your
computer's movement will not trigger an e-mail alert.

OptimizeGoogle: Google offers an impressive array of services that help
make the Internet useful, but all that assistance comes with a cost:
your privacy. If you use a number of Google services, you're giving
the company access to your search history, your e-mail, your video and
picture uploads and a wide range of other data, all of which can live
on Google's servers for months or even years.

OptimizeGoogle Firefox extension OptimizeGoogle provides a number of
options for increasing security and privacy while using Google's
online tools.

Phlogenix's OptimizeGoogle extension offers some neat tricks to
improve your Google experience, such as adding links to results pages
from Yahoo, Ask and other search engines for your searches in case
you're not satisfied with your Google results. The extension also
offers a number of privacy-increasing options, most notably the
ability to default to HTTPS secure browsing on all Google services and
disabling tracking by ads or Google Analytics.

U.S. Military to Manipulate Social Media << what next?

The United States Military can now add Facebook trolling to its growing list of endeavors. As ridiculous as that sounds, according to an exclusive at The Guardian, that’s exactly what is going on.

They report that United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has contracted a newly created California company, Ntrepid, to develop software referred to as an “online persona management service.” The contract will add $2.76 million to military spending, which of course is paid for by John Q. Taxpayer. The program would allow military personnel to control up to 10 separate (fake) online identities per person. The purpose of these “sock puppets” would be to sway internet posts and discussions in favor of pro-American sentiments.

What, you say?

The contract states that each fake persona must have a convincing background and detailed history so as not to tip anyone off that it is fake. The contract also sets the number of possible US-based controllers of the identities at 50. Doing the math, that is 500 fake identities that could do anything from comment on Facebook posts and blogs to Tweeting and so much more.

The Guardian quotes CENTCOM spokesman Commander Bill Speaks as saying, “The technology supports classified blogging activities on foreign-language websites to enable CENTCOM to counter violent extremist and enemy propaganda outside the US.” That’s right, foreign language sites. The program is said to only be available in Arabic, Farsi, Urdu, and Pashto. It is apparently not to be used to influence English speaking audiences.

The new program is part of a larger program known as Operation Earnest Voice (OEV). The Guardian reports General James Mattis talking about the aim of OEV:

“OEV seeks to disrupt recruitment and training of suicide bombers; deny safe havens for our adversaries; and counter extremist ideology and propaganda.” He added that Centcom was working with “our coalition partners” to develop new techniques and tactics the US could use “to counter the adversary in the cyber domain.”

I did not buy this product and have absolutely no intention of doing so. Therefore I could not write a "Good or Bad Review", so I'm doing the next best thing and pointing you in the right direction for being able to make up your own mind. 2) If I through my experience and common sense I suspect an unethical marketing practice or offer I will immediately visit the Warrior Forum and read the user reviews there to confirm my suspicions.

3) If the reviews confirm my suspicions I will let as many people know about them as possible. Frankly, I see too many people being sucked in by these fraudsters.

4) Any marketer who sends me me one of these rubbish offer is immediately rewarded by my unsubscribing from his/her list.

5) In my own promotions I insure that I only send people offers that relate directly to the reason they subscribed to my list, and only after my own use of the product, and a review check as in 2) above has satisfied my that I really am providing great value to my subscribers.

Think about it for a moment - you've found an excellent multi-tier affiliate program and you know your chances of succeeding will be helped dramatically if you have an active and experienced sponsor. A sponsor who's asleep at the wheels is no help at all are they?

You know this don't you?. Of course you do. And most people investigating residual income opportunities on the net know it too.

You didn't just accept any Joe (or Jane) did you? (well I hope you didn't!)

No, you stopped for a moment, thought about what's best for you and leapt on to Google to do some research on this person.

So, here's my questions for you today.

* Are you differentiating yourself from the thousands of Joe/Jane Does out there?

* Through your willingness to to share with, help and support others without expectation, are you developing a following?

* Are people increasingly recognizing you are an Alpha Leader?

* Are you 'making enough mess' on the web so that when someone starts researching you on Google they can quickly see you're active, experienced and a leader they can rely on?

US home price drops exceed Great Depression

Home prices fell for the 53rd consecutive month in November, taking
the decline past that of the Great Depression for the first time in
the prolonged housing slump, according to Zillow.

Home prices have fallen 26 percent since their peak in 2006, exceeding
the 25.9 percent drop registered in the five years between 1928 and
1933, the housing data company said in a report on Monday. Prices
fell 0.8 percent over the month.

It is a dubious milestone for the U.S. housing market which has
failed to gain much traction despite a host of government programs to
reduce delinquencies and encourage demand with temporary tax credits
and lower interest rates. Many economists expect further price drops,
even if there are some anecdotal signs of growing demand, such as in
pending home sales data.

"For the next six to nine months, the larger factors affecting the
housing market that will produce more home price declines will be the
excess inventory of homes, high negative equity and foreclosure rates,
and weakened demand due to elevated employment, Stan Humphries,
Zillow's chief economist, said in a blog post.

Declines are accelerating, and it will take a while before falling
unemployment and other signs of economic improvement support the
market, Zillow said.

Home prices fell at a 0.78 percent pace in November, the fastest since
February 2009, the company said.

I know how much you're making with 12SC

Well, not exactly because I can't see exactly how much you're making from your second and third tier commissions, but it's really easy maths (even for a country boy like me ) for me to look into my back office Front Line Affiliates report and multiply the sales by the 45 percent commission you get and get a rough idea. And another report there shows me that nearly all of you have people on your second and third tier, so add another 15% for a total of 60% overall.

Easy! even for me and it's very gratifying, as one of the people who worked with Darryl to put 12SecondCommute together, to see such a large majority of you who are making real, substantial, and stable, residuals! Making more in fact than fully 90% of all other marketers who continue to struggle online - because they don't have the essential tools and training we all MUST have to be successful and full our pockets with cash. They don't have 12SecondCommute.

The other thing that I like as I view these reports is how ethical and fair 12SecondCommute is. I can see from the hit statistics of each of my team that those who are doing the work are making heaps, and those who are cruising, or doing darn all, are making ................... yep, you guessed it, darn all. Making money on the web with Two -Tier affiliate marketing packages

It's, in all probability, true to say that when most individuals think of making money on the web, they generally consider affiliate marketing, however many overlook, or don't know about, the tremendous benefits of 2-Tier affiliate marketing programs. I hope to overcome that in this post because, if you want to be making money on the web, particularly making residual incomes, you should not overlook the special advantages of multi-tier affiliate programs

As Wikipedia puts it, 'Two-tier programs exist in the minority of affiliate programs; most are simply one-tier. Referral programs past two-tier resemble multi-level marketing (MLM) or network marketing but are different: Multi-level marketing (MLM) or network marketing associations tend to have more complex commission requirements/qualifications than standard affiliate programs.'

Let me try to simplify that:

A 2 tier affiliate program is one you where you earn money on your own sales in addition to on the sales of associates that you recruit. Usually you make about 50% in your personal sales, but you additionally make about 10% on the sales of your personally recruited affiliates.

An essential distinction right here is that this is not multi level marketing (MLM). In a affiliate program you are only paid on sales made by your immediate recruits. In multi level marketing you are paid on many levels below you.

Lets take a look at a few of the pros and cons of two tier affiliate marketing programs, and what can make them among the most worthwhile products to be involved with as a way of making money on the web.

1. You will earn money on the sales of affiliates that you recruit - residual incomes.

This allows you to multiply your efforts. You, personally, are only able to do so many sales a month personally, but if you were to also have a hundred and fifty associates underneath you all promoting as well just take into consideration how much more money you would earn. Think also about the residual elements of this - I not too long ago spend two months wandering world wide enjoying my family and all the wonders the world has to offer, did no advertising or promotions in that time and the money still rolled in - from my affiliates.

2. You'll get to create and work with your personal sales team.

If you're the type of person who enjoys working with other folks then 2 tier internet affiliate marketing packages are great for that. Parrot ( Joke )

A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a
bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary.

Every word out of the bird's' mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with
profanity. John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by
consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything
else he could think of to 'clean up' the bird's vocabulary.
Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot
yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even
more rude. John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird
and put him in the freezer. For a few minutes the parrot squawked,
kicked, and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep
was heard for over a minute.
Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the
freezer. The parrot calmly stepped out onto John's outstretched arms
and said “I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and
actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions
and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and
unforgivable behaviour.”
John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude.
As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change
in his behaviour, the bird spoke-up, very softly, “May I ask what the turkey did?”

Identity fraud takes place when criminals get hold of enough sensitive
data to impersonate you, clear your accounts, borrow money and run up
debts in your name - and it's a booming business, according to
Experian's Victims of Fraud service, which saw a 66 per cent rise in
reported cases during 2007.

Ten ways to keep your ID safe
It's one of the fastest-growing crimes of the 21st century.

These tips could help to protect you:

1. Shred sensitive information. Shred financial statements, offers
of loans and credit cards, catalogue account details or anything else
that could be used to impersonate you before binning them. Thieves go
through rubbish to see if there is anything useful - a practice known
as bin raiding.

2. Check your statements carefully. Go through your credit card and
bank statements every month. Unexpected entries can be the first
indication that somebody is stealing your money.

3. Learn to love your credit report. Your credit report is such an
effective tool in the fight against ID fraud that the government
recommends regular checks to protect yourself. It gives you a
snapshot of your borrowings and repayment record, so you can easily
spot unfamiliar accounts and suspicious balances.

4. Limit your social networking. It's tempting to include basic
information such as your full name and date of birth in your profile,
then add interesting details such as your pets' or children's names
and nicknames. Don't - these are the kind of detail that you probably
use for passwords and PINs, so leave them out. Your cyber-friends
might be fraudsters looking for enough data to steal your ID.

5. Don't risk important documents. Don't carry your passport,
driving licence or even credit cards unless you know you'll need them
and never write down your PINs and passwords. If your bag or wallet
is stolen, you could be handing the thieves your identity as well as
your cash.

6. Report thefts. Always tell the police, your bank, credit card
issuers and anybody else who might be affected if you suffer a theft.
That way, your loss is on the record and organisations who might be
approached by the thieves will be forewarned.

7. Keep an eye on your post. If mail goes missing, tell the Post
Office immediately - someone may be intercepting it, especially if you
live in a building with a communal hall where mail is delivered.

8. Register to vote at your current address. Lenders use the
electoral roll to check that you live where you say you do. If you're
not registered, a criminal could register you at another address.
When you move home, always deregister at your old address and
re-register at the new one. That way, the people who move into your
previous home can't offer apparent proof that they are you.

9. Don't respond to cold calls and e-mails. Never reply to e-mails
and cold-callers asking for details such as PINs, passwords and
account numbers - and don't fill in your details on any unfamiliar
e-mail or website. Telephone the organisation that is allegedly
behind the approach, using the number in the phone book or in previous
correspondence - and warn them what is happening.

10. Keep on checking your credit report. You need to check your
credit report regularly, because ID thieves could target you at any
time.

Let's cut to the bottom line about this list you 'found' (I assume you mean a quantity of email addresses) and you're contemplating contacting those people by importing this list into your autoresponder.

No matter how you 'found' this list, importing and using it places you right in the path of spam complaints, and possible getting your I.P banned, or other nasty legal action taken against you - as an aside its probably low quality anyway, as most of them are. The old saying is 'rubbish in - rubbish out'

The only legit people you are permitted to email are those who have given you permission to end them information at your capture page - this is why reputable autoresponder service suppliers don't allow you to import lists of email addresses.

To build a List yourself, forget all the rubbish you hear and read about 1) using free autoresponders, 1) importing lists, 3) having you own hosted autoresponder and all the various 'shortcuts' and tricky methods.

Instead do the following:

1) Invest in a reputable autoresponder service supplier - I recommend 12SC because, unlike all the others, they provide not only the responder but an easy to use capture page maker, full tracking and 6 other services that all successful marketers have to have to succeed all in one integrated package - and all at very reasonable rates. I week ago I reset the Max CPC Bid on one of my keywords to $0.30 - or so I thought.

Popped back in this morning to find that, on that one keyword, I had spent NZ$126.49 in 5 days!

I had accidentally set it at $30.00 per click instead of $0.30

Kinda takes your breath away :-)

Lesson learned.

What happens when your website fails?...

When your traffic dies?...

When your subscriber numbers drop off
to zero?...

...and your sales go down the drain?

What practical steps can you take to turn
things around for yourself?...

The first thing you need to do is look at
is the niche market you're in.

Are your competitors suffering the same
fate as you?

You can get a good idea of this by looking
how many Google AdWords ads are showing up
for your main keyword phrase in Google's
search pages.

The reason for looking at Google AdWords is
because as you probably know already...

...your competitors have to pay for each
click they get on their ad.

If they're paying for their traffic they
simply must have a profit model in place.

Otherwise why bother?

Right?

If there are only a handful of AdWords ads on
your search page then all might not be lost.

What you need to do is look at how those
top advertiser sites are structured.

What are they selling? How are they selling it?

Are they focusing everything on building
a list first?

They might have just found a way to make a
profit from the exact same keyword your
site is going to hell in a handbasket with!

Let's say there are only a few Google
AdWords ads on the first page for your
websites main keyword phrase.

...Or maybe there are dozens of ads going
over several pages, it doesn't really
matter.

Visit each of those top 5 sites that are
advertising, find out what they're selling
that's making them the money.

Pay close attention to the advertiser in
the #1 position and see if they use the
exact same ad each day for a week.

If they are then that ad is likely to be
making them money, that's a great clue for
you to follow!

Make a note of the domain name then go to
Compete .com and type it in.

You'll then see how much traffic they get
each month and what their main keywords are.

When you've done this go to Alexa. com
and do the same.

What we're doing here is finding out who
the big players are in your market...

Then we're deconstructing their approach
so you can model their success.

It's as simple as that.

The problem with your website and it's
failure could be down to some very basic
things.

By understanding the structure of a successful
website in your market you'll get some
valuable insights into how you can get
things quickly turned around for yourself.

On the other hand... if there are zero
AdWords ads on the results pages for your
keyword it's time to pick another market!

FAST!

Or at least find another keyword that
generates profits for others, then just
re-optimize your site for that.

Competition is good, it means there's money
to be made, so always keep this in mind.

Above all remember...

...success leaves clues!

When you find those clues follow them,
apply them to what you're doing and success
is sure to follow.

If you think none of the above applies to
your website you'd be dead wrong!

You can apply this exact same advice to any
website and take it's profit pulling
power to the very next level.

Upcoming launch of Google Me - A rival for Facebook?

Google is king of most things related to Internet-based services and products, but of social networking, not so much. However, in Google's attempt gain dominance in the social networking market and to rival Facebook, which has captured over 500 million users, “Google Me” is slated to be released in fall 2010. Google Me will allow users to access information they have created on other sites like Twitter, Flickr, and so forth. Eric Schmidt, Google’s Chief Executive Officer, reports that with Google Me the company will add another “social layer” this fall season.

Google’s Orkut was a disappointing attempt as a social networking website back in 2004. Google Buzz was another social networking platform launched in February 2009 that allowed photo sharing and comments, but had privacy issues and less than impressive results. Both Orkut and Buzz require users to hold a Google account, which discouraged some people from using these services. Positioned for release in the fall of 2010 is another social networking product from Google called “Google Me.”

What will Google Me do?

YouTube will incorporate more social networking elements
Allow people to play online social Games
What else? That information has not yet been shared.

Existing Google social platforms:

Google Profiles: allows a user to create a personal info page.
Google Buzz: allows personal status updates.
Latitude: allows a user to share location information.
Google Social Search: once signed into Google, at the bottom of the page you can see “results from people in your social circle.” View profiles, blog articles, tweets, content from friends, images from Picasa and more.

While past platforms have not taken off to the level Google had hoped for, they do encompass important social networking features. Still, these various Google platforms lack a central hub that ties them all together. Will Google solve this problem by taking the positive elements of their existing social websites and morph them together into Google Me

Christchurch Cathedral bells have rung out to mark the end of the world's longest migration.

The first bar-tailed godwits to finish their more than 11,000km journey from Alaska have been spotted on Canterbury's Avon-Heathcote estuary.

About 2000 more were expected to land over the next few weeks.

The bells were rung from midday today to welcome the birds to their wintering home.

The Alaska Science Centre used satellite telemetry to follow the migrations of the godwits in 2007 and 2008, confirming the godwits as the longest non-stop fliers for a land bird.

Working, if you can call it that, out of the comfort of your home has HUGE advantages, but also has a disadvantage in that, if you're not careful, you become a bit introspective and can end up believing in your own infallibility.

Protect your privacy online

With the likes of Facebook, Google, MySpace, Twitter, Bebo, Habbo,
and the wide proliferation of social networking means people are making more
information about themselves accessible to strangers than ever before
and sometimes getting into all sorts of strife because of it.

As attitudes to privacy are starting to change, and as identity theft
increases, here is a short list of some ways you can protect your privacy
online:

1) Personalized search engine optimization - strange as it may seem,
people are willing to pay for experts to alter how far up Google's
listings their name appears when they type it in. The method allows
you to keep the bad news private and highlight whatever - true of
false - information you desire. As one firm put it: "If you've ever
Googled yourself and been less than happy with the results, you've
discovered a need for personal SEO."

2) Change your name - stranger yet, Google's chief executive, Eric
Schmidt, has said young people might have to change their names when
starting adult life to escape the shadow of their dodgy past. Many
adults already use aliases for sites like Facebook so only those who
know that know where to find them.

3) Change your security/privacy settings - a lot of Facebook users, to
name just one social networking site, simply don't bother taking
enough interest in this but it offers you some genuine control over
who sees what. Do you really want a prospective boss checking what
you used to do at the weekends?

4) Set strong passwords - this is something online registration has
been encouraging for years now but too many people just put in their
birthdate, pet's name, or the name of the site. To add to the
problem, there are thousands of hacking guides specifically designed
to get into Facebook which are available via Google. The best advice
remains: use a long, interspersed combination of lower-case letters,
capital letters and numbers.

5) Untag yourself - social networking sites allow other people to
"tag" photos of you but you have the opportunity to remove it, which
is sometimes wise. So pay attention when you are prompted to do such
things.

6) Don't include dates of birth/address/mother's maiden name - such
things are almost invariably used as security questions for banks and
credit card databases. Therefore giving them up compromises your
security and makes it easier to forge your identity, "clone" your
cards and steal your money.

7) Don't respond to dodgy emails - an obvious one and a bit of an old
trick now but people still fall for it. If you get an unsolicited
email from an African business (a stereotype but often true) wanting
to give you an incredible amount of money for a simple task, delete
it. It's a scam. And you could be opening the door for electronic
intruders.

8) Log out - if you're in a library or some other communal space,
people can get onto the machine you've just vacated and dive into your
profiles if you have not logged out properly. Clearly this is most
important for financial matters.

9) Wi-fi - if you've got wi-fi at home, give it a good password (see
above). Otherwise it allows intruders in with few barriers to
overcome.

10) Don't use Facebook - if you're absolutely terrified that someone
might learn your darkest secrets or that a German fancy dress evening
might backfire later in life. The only certain way to avoid
embarrassment is to avoid social networking sites altogether.

11) Don't type in your passwords by hand! Keyloggers surreptitiously
installed on your computer can monitor every keystroke and send them
off to the thieves. Imagine if it's you bank account they get into!

Duplicating Capture Pages in 12SC

A small change from what Darryl taught us at the conference tonight - a
little safer if you're new to playing with HTML

1) Go to 'View Pages' area of the Capture Page Creator.

2) Click on 'View' for the Capture page you're interested in. This will
bring that page up in a browser new window, or a new tab.

3) Then go Add Capture page - Select a Domain, name your page and hit
submit.

4) Click on HTML at the bottom of that new page, and clean out all code
that's in there.

5) In your browser (the page that came up when you hit view) go 'View'
then 'Source'(or Page Source in FF) and copy all this code.

6) Paste all this code into the Capture Page Creator Edit page you have
open.

7) Click 'Preview' at the bottom, then hit 'Save Capture Page'. Job
done! :-)

This is a bit safer because there is no way you can damage the source code
in your original page when you're copying the code.

comScore Gives Twitter Traffic Victory Over MySpace

Although it obviously took a little while for anyone to notice, it looks like August will go down as a very important period in Twitter's history. comScore has determined that Twitter passed MySpace in terms of unique visitors last month.

In one sense, the changeup wasn't a huge deal: Twitter just saw 96 million visitors versus MySpace's 95 million. But the switch looks permanent, considering that, on a year-over-year basis, Twitter's visitor count increased 76 percent while MySpace's fell 17 percent.

Amir Efrati also noted, "Twitter is expected to gain visitors from a redesign of Twitter.com launched two weeks ago, which made the site more like Facebook's and could draw in users who access Twitter through third-party applications such as TweetDeck."

This should make advertisers and businesspeople who still haven't come to respect Twitter think twice, perhaps devoting a little bit of time and money to the site as a result.

It's also possible a sort of snowball effect in terms of users could occur, since some people are sure to follow their friends in joining Twitter.

Why is that important for affiliate marketers like you and I?

Because, if you're a freedom freak like me who wants to work no more than four hours a day or, worse, you're building your internet business part-time after your work and family commitments, you need to be putting your efforts in places which will have the greatest return to you.

The wind was blowing 50 mph, so I pulled back into the garage, turned on the radio, and discovered that the weather would be bad all day.
